Loss of expensive gear and valuable catch can occur when cables are fouled by fishing gear. Please check local notices for any cable repairs and check charts for original cable locations to prevent an encounter.

Pdf's of the Pacific Crossing cable maps are available in the links below courtesy of North American Submarine Cable Association Pacific Region Maps.

Do NOT bring cables to the surface. Do NOT attempt to cut a cable.

It is extremely dangerous to attempt to bring a cable fouled in fishing gear on board. If gear becomes entangled with a submarine cable, do not cut or break the cable as it could cause serious or fatal injury due to the tension and high voltages.

Abandon the gear if it cannot be freed without damaging the cable and make a claim for gear lost or damaged, in writing, within 24 hours of arrival at the next port of call.
