The PC-1 System

The Pacific Crossing PC-1 trans-Pacific network consists of four fiber-pairs organized in four segments connecting each of the landing stations near major metropolitan areas in the U.S. and Japan: Harbour Pointe, Washington (near Seattle); Grover Beach, California (between San Francisco and Los Angeles); Ajigaura, Japan (near Tokyo); and Shima, Japan (near Osaka and Nagoya).

The PC-1 system is connected seamlessly to backhaul providers providing diverse routes and competitive pricing. Facilities in the U.S. have multiple, independent backhaul providers collocated in the cable landing stations that offer route-diverse services to the major carrier inter-exchange centers in California and Washington. The Pacific Crossing facilities in Japan are collocated with Asia Netcom’s East Asia Crossing (EAC), providing access to multiple regions in Asia such as Hong Kong, Seoul and Singapore. The Japanese facilities also have multiple backhaul providers and are in close proximity to Tokyo and Nagoya, linking the system to major metropolitan areas in Japan as well as other sub-sea networks serving other parts of Asia.

Key features of the PC-1 system:

Fully Redundant – Designed as a dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) self-healing ring, it is fully redundant and provides internal restoration capability in the event of system disruptions.

Low Latency – Supported by sub-oceanic repeaters that use optical amplifiers, the PC-1 system is extremely low latency, operating lower than other networks across the Pacific.

High Capacity – With recently completed system upgrades that support over 1 terabit of transmission capacity trans-Pacific, Pacific Crossing delivers ample capacity to support current and future demand for broadband network services.

Global Monitoring and Maintenance – Strategic operational relationships with Lucent Technologies, Alcatel Submarine Networks, Global Crossing’s Global Network Operations Center (GNOC) and Global Access Limited enable around-the-clock “wet” and “dry” maintenance, network monitoring and support for the PC-1 system and landing stations to ensure high reliability and availability.

24x7 Customer Support – Pacific Crossing provides 24x7 NOC services and support for customers in all regions of the world.
