Mark Simpson Chief Executive Officer
Mark Simpson was appointed CEO of Pacific Crossing in January 2008. Simpson was recently Chief Operating Officer of Asia Netcom, a position he had held since September 2006. He previously served as Chief Technology Officer (CTO), Chief Information Officer (CIO) and Senior Vice President with a focus on restructuring efforts at Asia Netcom and its predecessor Asia Global Crossing from 2001 to 2004. Prior to Asia Netcom, Simpson served as CEO of C2C Pte. Ltd., Asia's largest cable system. During the 1990's, he co-founded, built and sold an innovative consulting company specializing in customer care in the Asia Pacific region. For 15 years, he held a wide variety of senior management roles at Telstra, Australia's leading telecom carrier.
Kurt E. Johnson Chief Financial Officer
In May 2008, industry veteran Kurt Johnson was appointed Chief Financial Officer of Pacific Crossing Limited. Johnson brings over 27 years of experience serving as CFO and corporate controller for leading companies in the technology and telecommunications sector. His understanding of the telecommunications business, together with his proven track record in financial planning and corporate control management, are a further step in ensuring Pacific Crossing has the necessary support infrastructure in place to meet our aggressive growth targets as well as further enhancing our ability to move quickly to capitalize on emerging opportunities. Prior to joining Pacific Crossing Limited, Johnson was the CFO for semiconductor test company, Inovys Corporation, where he played an instrumental role in the company’s transition from an equipment-focused organization to a software-focused services company, leading to the successful sale of the company to Verigy Limited. In his career, Johnson has served as CFO for MediaLive International Holdings, Yipes Enterprise Services Inc., Netcom On-Line Communication Services Inc., Narus Inc., VPNX.com and others. He holds a B.S. degree in Business Administration from the University of California, Berkley.
Todd Rahimi General Counsel
Todd Rahimi was appointed General Counsel of Pacific Crossing in June of 2008 and is responsible for all company legal and regulatory affairs. Before joining Pacific Crossing, Mr. Rahimi worked at Asia Netcom as Director of Business Development, where he focused on the sale of Asia Netcom to investor group Connect Holdings and on expanding the reach of the subsea network throughout Asia-Pacific. Previously, Mr. Rahimi served as Deputy General Counsel at both Asia Netcom and REACH, and also worked for Level 3 Communications in both the United States and Hong Kong. Prior to embarking on his telecom career, Mr. Rahimi worked in San Francisco for litigation defense firms Gordon & Rees and Ropers, Majeski. Mr. Rahimi graduated cum laude from Santa Clara University School of Law.
John D. Garrett Global Head of Sales
John Garrett joined Pacific Crossing in July 2008. He brings a wealth of telecommunications industry experience in all aspects of business management. This rich experience provides a global perspective of market opportunities and business imperatives for the carrier market. Garrett is well equipped to guide our global sales effort, anticipating emerging market opportunities to provide benefit for our customers and Pacific Crossing.
Prior to joining Pacific Crossing, Garrett served as Chief Operating Officer/Country Manager of Japan for PACNET (formerly Asia Netcom). He began his telecoms career with MCI Telecommunications in San Francisco, CA, USA; from there he moved to Japan and Singapore gaining rich experience in the global carrier market. During his 20 year career he held numerous leadership positions, traveling between Asia, Japan and North America, including: MCI Worldcom, Morgan Guaranty Trust Company and EDS. Mr. Garrett holds a B.S. in Finance and Information Systems from the University of Colorado. He is fluent in Japanese and English. In his role with Pacific Crossing, he will have offices in Tokyo, Japan and San Francisco, CA.
Seth Davis Chief Technology Officer
Seth Davis has served as CTO of Pacific Crossing since 2002 managing its network operations. His career spans more than 30 years in business and technology consulting and financial management in media and telecommunications industries. He has held executive and senior consulting positions with companies such as AT&T Wireless Services, Inc., Cable Plus L.L.P. and MIDCOM Communications, Inc. He also was Senior Vice President and COO of USOL Holdings, Inc., as well as President and CEO of U.S. Fibercom Network. In addition to his position at Pacific Crossing, he is Senior Director at CXO, L.L.C. Davis has a master's of business administration from the Owen School of Management at Vanderbilt University.
Masato Kataoka Managing Director – Japan
Masato Kataoka was appointed Pacific Crossing’s Managing Director for PC-1J, its Japanese subsidiary, in October of 2007. He has country responsibilities and coordinates with the Pacific Crossing team on Asia and Japan activities. He has been working in the telecom industry in Japan for more than 15 years. He started his career working at International Digital Communications (IDC) where he was Assistant Manager of Transmission Engineering Department. He then became the Country Manager for SITA/Equant JV, a joint venture of two international carriers. Prior to joining Pacific Crossing, he was Director of Network Operations Planning department of Japan Telecom. Kataoka-san is the holder of a patent of Symmetrical Latency Measurement Method as its inventor. He holds a Bachelor, Science and Engineering degree from Waseda University and a Master of Business Administrations from Aoyama-Gakuin University.
John Ofenloch Senior Vice President, Finance
John Ofenloch has served as Senior Vice President of Pacific Crossing since 2002. He brings more than a decade of leadership in developing and implementing business and financial strategies for telecommunications, technology and Internet companies. Ofenloch has held executive-level finance positions with telecommunication and software organizations such as FlashNet Communications and Nanovation Technologies. He also has held financial positions with Nortel Networks, First USA and NationsBank Securities. In addition to his position at Pacific Crossing, he has worked with CXO, L.L.C. since 2002. Ofenloch earned a Master's of Business Administration from Southern Methodist University's Cox School of Business.
Paul Fernes Senior Vice President, Sales
Paul Fernes was appointed Senior Vice President of Pacific Crossing in May 2007. He has more than 17 years of experience in technology, as well as extensive leadership experience in the North American telecommunications market. In the last eight years he served in key roles at Level 3 Communications Inc in the New Ventures group as well Sales and Marketing within the Government, Asian business and Content business units. Fernes has held leadership positions with some of the Silicon Valley’s leading companies such as Sun Microsystems and Cypress Semiconductors. Fernes started his career at Alcatel-India as an engineer working on the first digital telephone exchange. He holds a Master of Computer Engineering degree from LC Smith College of Engineering from Syracuse University and an MBA from Kellogg School of Management from North Western University.
Kathleen Carr Vice President Business Operations
Kathleen Carr joined Pacific Crossing as Vice President, Business Operations in March 2008. With strong experience in telecoms and more than 15 years as a management consultant specializing in sales, service strategy and operations, she is well positioned to continue the development of Pacific Crossing’s key customer enabling and operational processes and to lead global marketing efforts. Carr has led major transformational projects in the telecommunications, finance and cable/satellite TV industries, for companies in the U.S., Asia, Japan and Australia and has achieved customer service and productivity improvements that resulted in multi-million dollar performance increases. Prior to her consulting career, Carr held several management positions with Pacific Telephone/AT&T marketing and sales; including Director of Marketing Communications and Manager of Sales Operations.
